Apple vs PC
Alright Darrell, I know your ears perked up when you read that title ; )
I’ll have you know my first computer was an Apple II Plus. Yes, that’s an oldie. Back with the old REAL floppy disks ; ) Everything had to run off of those disks including my favorite game: Lemonade Stand. Oh the hours I blew on that game.
Then the next computer was brought into our house – an IBM. I kicked and screamed at the idea of using language other than basic. I missed typing “catalog” to get a list of files. Suddenly I was having to learn DOS. All my school papers were written in Word Perfect – yes the old version that relied on all the function keys at the top. I finally got used to it as I had nothing else to resort to. This one had a cool Dot Matrix printer that in hind site was noisier than hell and we had so many torn off edges with the holes laying around.
Then came Windows 3.1. How weird that was. The mouse was born. Suddenly I had to learn how to use this strange looking thing with a tail that connected to the computer. I fought that for as long as I could. Can you tell I don’t like change? Finally I got used to that and the next versions of Windows came out one at a time. I waited as long as I could on all of them. Even now, I’m running XP and that took a lot of effort for me to switch from 98. Vista is out and I am not ready yet. I’ve had to order and setup new machines for several clients with Vista but truth be told – I’m in no hurry to switch. What I have now works – you know?
I got into an arguement with a Microsoft guy that was in town with their mobile trailer about Vista a few months ago. I asked him how much longer until Vista was stable. His response was that Vista IS stable – it’s all the third party software that is not compatable. I wanted to smack my forehead. Way to make the others conform to YOU and not try to make things work together! Geeze.
Now Darrel and Micah – I know you are Apple fans and just love to eat us PC fans alive like mosquitoes. (By the way, I saw a sign at the farmers market today that said: “State bird of Ohio” and had a picture of a mosquito under it.) Darrell, there is a reason I haven’t taken back that Mac laptop – I have no desire to learn it. See, I work in a PC world. That’s my job – I support PC’s. So, when at home I’m learning more and more on my own computer instead of getting confused with Mac at home and PC at work. I don’t work in a graphic intense environment and therefore my company (over 60,000 employees nationwide) all use PC’s. Unless my job specs change – I’ll always be a PC user. Vista? I’ll wait a while ; )
