Please come out and help us

My dog is a beagle mix and today she found a bunny hole in the back yard. I turned my head in time to see her with one of them in her mouth and the other one already on the ground. I yelled at her to drop which she did and I looked at my daughter and told her to go in the house. My neighbor came to the fence and all I could say was “I’m going to need your help.”
I let the dog in the house and my neighbor tried to do CPR on the one that wasn’t breathing (minus the mouth to mouth). She turned it over and saw a puncture wound so we declared that one dead. The second one was still breathing and there not any visible injuries so she placed it back in the hole. It was not very responsive though so I’m not sure if it will make it.
Meanwhile my daughter was in the house absolutely bawling and the dog was crying because she wanted out to see her loot. I calmed the daughter by explaining that it is what she was born to do and we can’t change that. (I know it’s only instinct but I’m still mad at her.) I changed her focus to how can we protect the one that lived? She stopped crying and made a sign to hang on the door saying warning – bunny hole. Keep Zoe away!
I don’t know if it is going to make it. It breaks my heart that she found them and one didn’t survive. I hope mom bunny comes back and takes care of the other one. I’ve had Zoe two and a half years and this is her second baby bunny fatality. I guess that’s what I get for having a fenced in yard. : (
Well, lets see. I can’t remember what I wrote last and frankly I’m too lazy to go look so sorry if I’m boring you with duplicate info:
1. My brother and his family came for a visit the week of the fourth of July. It was great to see them but I was ready for them to leave by week’s end. My sister-in-law is a wonderful woman but seemed extra “green” and “political” this visit and it was getting to me a bit. Otherwise it was nice. Her parents came in from Pennsylvania as well and we enjoyed their company.
2. I’ve been slammed at work ever since that week off. My boss hit me hard with projects the VP wanted done ASAP and all the work I normally do plus the work I missed on my week off piled up. I’m almost to the bottom of the pile. However, I’m off sick today so that isn’t helping.
3. A dear client/friend of mine from my in-home computer consulting is dying of cancer. His son called me Monday at work to tell me they called in hospice and I just cried all afternoon after that call. I went to see him that night. It really breaks my heart. He is such an amazing person.
4. My good friends who moved to Texas have a just-turned-8-on-Thursday year old son who is fighting a very tough battle against cancer as well. He’s been in intensive care for almost three weeks now and has undergone 5 surgeries already. He’s still in critical condition and it is absolutely breaking my daughter’s and my heart. I started a website/listserv for the family and friends so updates can be passed to everyone at the same time to avoid the “telephone game”. It’s been a lot of work to keep up but it’s worth it to the 110 people who have subscribed and the family to only have to say the updates once.
5. My former father-in-law is home from Cleveland Clinic from a risky surgery to remove a pacemaker from his heart/chest. He has a bleeding disorder and a serious infection so it was considered very high risk – too risky for Toledo doctors/hospitals to do. He’s home now and they visited the other day as they missed my daughter/their granddaughter. He looked pretty good. I’m relieved to have at least one of the people I know out of the hospital.
6. My uncle is still in the hospital for his broken hip. My understanding is he is doing better each day so that’s good news!
7. A part in my pool filter broke two weeks ago and I finally got the replacement part three days ago. I’m hoping the chemicals are all balanced now that I’ve had it running non-stop. With 90 degree temperatures it would sure be nice to take a swim.
There’s more but I think I’ve bored you enough
